An online resource to support the schools pack produced by the Church of England's Committee for Minority Ethnic Anglican Concerns to mark the Bicentenary of the Act for the Abolition of the Slave Trade.

The pack includes lesson plans, assembly ideas, a DVD and other resources for exploring the themes of the Bicentenary, issues of slavery and freedom, and insights into modern day slavery.

Watch [YouTube] the Archbishops of Canterbury and York react to the scene they encountered in Zanzibar, when they visited the site of a former slave market and gained a sense of the appalling conditions in which slaves were kept prior to auction and onward shipping to owners. Both Archbishops were visibly moved as they recounted their reactions on seeing the chains and the pits in which the slaves were held.

Listen [MP3] to a specially-recorded track featuring sounds to aid reflection and creative writing within the classrrom about the experience of being enslaved by the Transatlantic trade.
